 The Passionate Nationalist Poet of Sindh




Mohammad Khan Majeedi (Sindhi: محمد خان مجيدي‎) was born on the day of 5 January 1918 at the village Shadman Jatoi, Taluka Mirpur Bathoro, Sujawal District. He was believed to be a passionate nationalist poet in the Sindhi language. He breathed last on the day of 7 April 2003 in Sujawal.

Education of Mohammad Khan Majeedi

His early education was gained at Jhok, and passed Sindhi final with 1st position from the institute of Sindh Madarsa, Karachi in the year of 1932.

Professional career

Mohammad Khan Majeedi was elected as a Dhuk Munshi at Jhok, then, Primary teacher in the month of August 1934. Serving at several schools as a teacher he ultimately retired from the post of Headmaster on the day of 5 January 1976.

Political background

During his service, he attended various gatherings, educational programs and endeavored for the rights of professors or teachers from the platform of the All Sindh Primary Teachers Association. He was influenced and impressed from G. M. Syed, the pioneer of Modern Sindhi nationalism. He wrote various pieces of poetry on the Sindh land.

Literary career

After getting retirement, Majeedi had committed his time for poetry; he reads his poetry on stage with sweet melodious tune. He began poetry during his service.

Publications

His 1st book Sindhri Ain Una Joon Qomoon, a very long poem of 96 stanzas over the tribes and casts of the Sindh province, each and every stanza contained eight lines, issued in the year of 1992. His another book of poetry Mitti Muhinji Mitti Aa was published in the year of 2000. His influential poetry has been sung by Zarina Baloch, Sarmad Sindhi and other notable artist. He had acquired various awards. He has 2 daughters and a son, the 2nd daughter Maryam Majeedi is also a poet.

Recognition

Government of Sindh had honored his services and dedication towards the province of Sindh and its individuals, and had named a girls school after his name as “Government Girls Primary School MUHAMMAD KHAN MAJIDI, PO JHOKE SHARIF, Mirpur Bithoro.”

Death

He breathed last on the day of 7 April 2003 in Sujawal.
