Muzaffar Warsi (born 23 December 1933 in the place of Meerath, British India, died 28 January 2011) was a notable Urdu poet, critic, essayist, a lyricist par excellence, and a famous scholar of the state Pakistan. A humble person with humble beginnings who is not afraid of experimenting. He started writing more than 5 decades ago. He wrote a diverse collection of not merely Na`ats, but also various anthologies of Ghazals and Nazms involving his autobiography Gaye dinon ka suraagh which is believed to be an epic classical book. He was writing quatrains daily Pakistan’s famous daily newspaper Nawa-i-Waqt.

Early life

Muzaffar Warsi was born with the name of Muhammad Muzaffar ud Din Siddiqui into the family of Alhaaj Muhammad Sharf ud Din Ahmad called as Sufi Warsi. It was the popular family of landlords of the place Meerath. Sufi Warsi was a scholar of the religion Islam, a doctor and poet. He acquired 2 titles: ‘Faseeh ul Hind’ and ‘Sharaf u Shu’ara’. He was the friend of Sir Muhammad Iqbal, Azeem Warsi, Abul Kalam Azad, Akbar Warsi, Josh Malihabadi , Hasrat Mohani, Ahsan Danish, and Mahindar Singh Bedi.[1]His family raised him with thorough religious knowledge and grounding. He has 1 brother namely Dr. M. S. Zafar Warsi who was also linked with the State Bank of Pakistan as the Assistant Director. Muzaffar Warsi’s Nephew Usman Warsi is a famous Singer, Music Composer and a Poet. Usman’s videos are present online as well and his grandson is Amsal Qureshi, who is also a well-known singer, guitarist, composer, song writer and a poet and can play various distinctive instruments. Amsal Qureshi has issued his official debut audio/video song “Koi Janay Naa” which is present online and is nowadays working hard on his latest songs and album.
Muzaffar Warsi remained to linked to State Bank of Pakistan (the Central Bank of Pakistan) as on the post of Deputy Treasurer. Muzaffar Warsi began writing his poetry by writing lyrics for songs for the movies of Pakistan but steadily changed direction and his way of poetry became more oriented towards the praising Allah Almighty and the Islamic prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Salallah o Alaeh’i Wa Aalihi Wa Salam). He began writing Hamd and Na`ats. He also wrote, daily, a stanza or 2 on current affairs in the popular Newspaper Nawa-i-Waqt until merely before he died. He died on the day of 28 January, 2011 in the city of Lahore, Pakistan.

Film Hamrahi (1966) was an iconic film in famous Pakistani playback singer Masood Rana’s singing career. Entire songs of ‘Hamrahi’ were termed as the ‘Best of Masood Rana’. Thousands of movie-goers watched this milestone film Hamrahi (1966) merely because of the all-time inspirational songs of Masood Rana.
