AllahDad Bohyo: The Iconic Scholar and Poet of Sindh Province


AllahDad Bohyo (Sindhi: ڊاڪٽر الهداد ٻوهيو‎) was born on the day of 18 August 1934 in a village Pechoha, Larkana District in the Sindh province, Pakistan. He was a renowned writer, educationist, scholar, linguist and poet. He breathed last on the day of 16 July 1994.

Education of AllahDad Bohyo

He acquired the degree of Master of Arts in English and Bachelor of Teaching. He gained PhD degree in the 1977 year under the supervision of Ghulam Ali Allana from the institute of University of Sindh. The title or topic of his research was “Sindhi Boli jo Samaji Karaj” Sindhi: سنڌي ٻوليءَ جو سماجي ڪارج‎.

Professional career

AllahDad Bohyo initiated his practical life as a teacher in the 1957 year. After that, he was promoted as director of education and remained on this position till the last days of his life. Dr. AllahDad Bohyo is famous as literary circle with his criticism and linguistic skills. He had worked his entire life for the promotion of language and literature, his most favorite fields were research and he took a thorough and deep interest in the field of social linguistics.

 Publications of AllahDad Bohyo

His PhD thesis was published by the Institute of Sindhology in the year of 1978. His articles and essays have been published in several periodicals and newspapers. He has also written few books on the research and criticism. It involves “Tanqeedaan” in the 1980 year. Adab ja fikri moharik (Sindhi: ادب جا فڪري محرڪ‎) in the year if 1984 and Ilm Tahkqee in the 1970 year. Dr. AllahDad Bohyo has compiled a book on the poetry termed as “Chawanda karo Karo” (Sindhi: چوندا ڪارو ڪارو‎) but so far it hasn’t been published.

Death

He breathed last on the day of 16 July 1994 due to heart attack while he was addressing a seminar.
