Muhammad Qasim Maka: The Prominent Sindhologist and Writer of Sindh
Muhammad Qasim Maka (Sindhi: محمد قاسم ماڪا) is a notable Sindhologist, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittae’s Scholar, Music director, Script writer, Music composer, Singer and Poet of the Sindhi Language. He was born on the day of 3 May 1953 at the area of Maka village of District Shikarpur, Sindh, Pakistan.
Education of Muhammad Qasim Maka
He gained early education from his village Maka and elementary education from the Lakhi Gulam Shah, passed Matriculation from the institute of Government High School Sukkur and completed intermediate education from the institute of Sachal College Hyderabad in the year of 1972. He acquired the degree of Masters in Social Work from the institute of University of Sindh with flying colors in the year of 1978.
Professional career
He was elected as an announcer and compere in Radio Pakistan Hyderabad. After that he was promoted as Host and Director of different Programs of PTV National. His Program Series “Suran Jo Safar” (Sindhi: سُرن جو سفر) was most watched programme by the local sindhi music lovers. In the year of 1978 he was appointed as Incharge in Audio-Video Section of University of Sindh Institute of Sindhology. On the day of 7 January 2010, he was promoted as Director Institute of Sindhology.
His Contribution in Sindhi Music
Muhammad Qasim Maka has Collected all Sindhi Gramophone record of ancient sindhi music involving 1st Sindhi Gramphone recorded in the country of Germany and converted them into cassettes and Compact discs. He has issued and released 3015 sindhi audio cassettes each audio cassette consists of 3 to 15 sindhi songs, entire 30,000 sindhi songs of notable folk and classical singers involving Muhammad Ibraheim, Muhammad Juman, Master Chander, Mai Bhaghi, Muhammad Yousif, Abida Perveen, Jiji Zareena Baloch, Ustaad Manzoor Ali Khan, Usttad Waheed Ali Khan, Jamal Faqeer, Sodhal Faqeer, Alan Faqeer, Jewani Bhae, Noor Bano and Sanam Marvi. He composed 11,452 Sindhi songs under his own directions. He has also released 125 video albums of Sindhi music each video album contains 7 to 15 songs, total 1500 video songs of Sindhi folk and classical music. He has also written forty Sindhi Sufi songs which were sung by famous sindhi Sufi singers, involving Soudhal Faqir, Alan faqir, Barkat Ali, Mai Bhagi, Mumtaz Lashari, Jamal-ud-in Faqir, Gulam Rabani, and Sadam Hussain. He has also documented forty-three documentary sindhi films on historical areas of Sindh, Art and Craft in Sindh and Sufi Saints of Sindh involving Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, Sachal Sarmast and Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. Muhammad Qasim Maka has also recorded audio book of Shah Jo Risalo in the voice of Sayed Saleh Muhammad Shah.
